Despite the many, incredible ways museum education departments have pivoted their programming and workflow to be more equitable and accessible in light of a global pandemic and calls for social justice reform, many executives and administrators are still out of touch about the impact of these initiatives. As a result, many museum educators feel burned out and unsupported, finding it difficult to sustain themselves at their respective institutions - some even leaving the field altogether in pursuit of better financial support and working conditions.
How can we take care of ourselves, support our colleagues, and advocate for our needs in the midst of institutional uncertainty? How do we continue prioritizing museum education when there is disconnect between other departments and administrators? How can education leaders model sustainability within their departments? Ultimately, how can we sustain ourselves so that we can continue working towards equity and access in museums? Join MESC at our 2023 Annual Institute as we continue exploring ways to address the lack of institutional support for educators and ways of building more empathy and compassion within the workplace.
This event will be held in-person on June 5th and online on June 12th. The in-person Keynote on June 5th will be recorded and shown online on June 12th. Both the In-Person and Online Annual Institutes will feature live, breakout sessions.
